Our files were stored on a local server with an offsite backup and our IT was managed in-house. Our firm and our IT demands were growing. Our aging local server was giving us problems resulting in decreased productivity for the firm. We went to a conference and heard about the horrors of ransomware attacks on some of our competitors and determined It was time to explore an outsourced IT solution.
Our transition to Vertex and the changes to our IT solutions occurred in stages. This was in part to accommodate our industry’s schedule and our desire to not make changes during the busiest part of the year for us. We first moved to a managed IT solution of our existing in-house IT infrastructure and then moved to a cloud desktop (i.e. a virtualized desktop). After this step, we moved our email hosting to Microsoft 365.
We have practically no IT related downtime and our IT queries are always dealt with in a timely manner. Increasingly we work remotely whether from home or from a client’s office. The cloud desktop is an amazing solution and operates a lot smoother than when we needed to access our files on a local server using a VPN.

It makes it easy to work remotely from home or a client’s office while securely accessing our files. We like the increased security of not having users saving client files on their local computers.
We interviewed a couple of other IT providers before making a decision. The other providers told us they knew what we needed, and they already had the solution. It was very much a packaged product that the other providers were offering and they weren’t interested in our needs.
Vertex’s approach was based around understanding our needs and developing a custom solution. Vertex also put a stronger focus on security than the other providers. Vertex quoted us a higher fee than the other providers but we felt most confident in their ability to meet our needs.
